A little over two and a half years ago, I became a grandfather to a young girl who goes by the name of Ellie. Elizabeth Grace is the name she was given. From the time she was born I have been on a totally unexpected “magic carpet ride” which I have gone through two digital cameras and literally thousands of photos that have documented her life ever since the day she was born.
At this point in my life, I could never have anticipated the joy she would bring. My three sons, who range in age from 20 to 35, have made me very proud and continue to make me feel good because I know I played some small role in shaping who they are today. Ellie is now my life’s love, and if my sons read this, they might pardon me if I say so. I constantly thank Ellie’s parents for letting me be such an important part of her life because I consider myself extremely fortunate and blessed.
I know some grandparents who don’t seem to enjoy their grandchildren as much as I do, and I can only apologize to them. Happiness is Ellie saying “hold me gramps”.
Ellie is now five years old, and this was written two years ago on December 12. She was born on August 19, 2002, and being a grandpa has only gotten better and more satisfying.
When you spend time with your grandchildren, it will become even more precious to you. And they will possess something that today’s kids hardly ever have: someone else’s time. (Anonymous)
I keep my photographic memories on eyeeye.smugmug.com. I was fortunate to have everything online with Smugmug when Hurricane Katrina flooded my home with six feet of water and destroyed all of my computers.
